Chios Day Trip from Çeşme

SATURDAY / CHIOS TOWN & SOUTH CHIOS TOUR: ARMOLIA – MASTIC GARDENS – PYRGI VILLAGE – MESTA VILLAGE – VESSA VILLAGE – LITHI BEACH

After completing our passport controls at the Çeşme ferry terminal at 07:00 in the morning, we set off for Chios, one of the most beautiful islands of our neighboring country. Following passport procedures, we begin our pleasant sea journey toward the island. Upon arriving in Chios, we board our waiting bus and begin discovering Chios, known as one of the wealthiest and best-preserved islands in Greece. Our first stop is the Mecidiye Mosque, one of the best-preserved mosques on the island today, built by the order of Sultan Abdülmecid during his visit to Chios in the 19th century. We panoramically view important landmarks around Vounaki Square (Platia Plastira), the island’s main meeting point, including the Public Garden (Dimotikos Kipos), the charming Ottoman-era Melek Pasha Fountain, the Chios Prefecture Building, the Homerion Cultural Center, and the Church of Agios Iakovos. Afterward, we begin our South Chios Tour to explore the famous Mastihohoria (mastic villages), known for their unique architecture and abundance of mastic trees. Our first destination is Mesta, famous for its tunnel-like streets and fortress-style houses. Along the way, we pass through Armolia Village, renowned for its pottery, ceramics, and historic castle. We then stop at a mastic garden, where we have the opportunity to closely see the famous mastic trees unique to Chios. Continuing our journey, we head toward Pyrgi, famous for its decorative geometric façade patterns called “xysta.” In Pyrgi, we visit the Church of Agioi Apostoloi (Holy Apostles), one of the island’s oldest churches dating back to the 15th century. If the church is open, our guide provides valuable information about its unique frescoes. We also photograph the impressive Church of Koimisis Theotokou in Pyrgi Square, adorned with the island’s famous xysta decorations, and visit a local shop to complete our island-style shopping. After our enjoyable time in Pyrgi, we arrive in Mesta, considered one of the most beautiful medieval villages of Chios. In this fascinating village, known for its labyrinth-like stone streets, historic architecture, and mystical atmosphere, we visit the Church of Taxiarchis and learn about the history of the region from our guide. Following our historical and architectural exploration in Mesta, we continue toward Vessa Village. Upon arrival, we discover the village’s unique architecture and charming streets. Later, we continue to Lithi, one of the most beautiful beaches on Chios Island, famous for its golden sandy shore and crystal-clear blue waters. Upon arrival, we take a short walk along the beach and enjoy lunch at one of the seaside tavernas. During the meal, guests who wish may swim and fully enjoy the clear waters of Lithi. After our delightful time in Lithi, we return to Chios Town. Following a memorable day, we bid farewell to all these beautiful places, take our seats on the ferry, and begin our return journey to Çeşme. After completing customs procedures in Çeşme, we say goodbye with the hope of meeting again on another FMA TRAVEL tour.
