MODERN AND HISTORIC CAPITALS: VATHI & PYTHAGORIO

VATHI CITY TOUR - (PYTHAGORAS SQUARE – LION INDEPENDENCE STATUE – CATHOLIC CHURCH – SAMOS PUBLIC LIBRARY – SOFOULI SQUARE) – PYTHAGORIO COAST – LOGOTHETIS CASTLE – BLUE STREET – IREON – MYTILINI VILLAGE

After completing our passport controls at Kuşadası Egeport Harbor at 07:00 in the morning, we begin our enjoyable sea journey lasting approximately one hour. Upon arriving in the capital city of Vathi, built around a horseshoe-shaped bay, we complete customs procedures and board our bus to explore the capital, home to many monumental buildings. Our first stop in Vathi is the waterfront area named Sofouli. Here, we see the island’s only Catholic Church, Santa Maria. We then panoramically view and receive information from our guide about the Samos Courthouse housed in neoclassical buildings, the Samos Public Library containing books dating back to the 16th century, Pythagoras Square located in the heart of Vathi, the marble Lion Statue symbolizing independence, the National Bank of Greece reflecting all the beauty of neoclassical architecture, and the statue of Themistokles Sofoulis, who served as Prime Minister of Greece for three terms and contributed greatly to Samos archaeology. Afterwards, we continue our journey to Pythagorio, hometown of the famous mathematician Pythagoras and home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the Aegean Sea. During our drive, we panoramically see archaeological remains of Ancient Samos, one of the 12 Ionian cities, as well as the Tunnel of Eupalinos and the Fortress of Lykourgos Logothetis. Upon arriving in Pythagorio, our first stop is the famous Blue Street. Decorated entirely with blue paint, artworks, unique objects, and charming writings, this narrow street opening onto the deep blue sea of Samos provides a perfect setting for memorable photographs. We then have the chance to closely see the Monument of Pythagoras. After freely exploring the streets of Pythagorio, we enjoy lunch at a beautiful seaside restaurant along the Pythagorio Coast. During the lunch break, guests who wish may enjoy the sea and sunshine by swimming in the crystal-clear waters of Pythagorio. Following our pleasant time in Pythagorio, we panoramically view Potokaki, one of the island’s most famous beaches, and continue to Ireon, one of the most populated towns on the island. Home to the renowned Temple of Hera, Ireon offers both discovery and relaxation as we enjoy our coffee break here. Later, we continue to Mytilini, a lush green mountain village. In Mytilini, we visit a local shop selling Samos’ famous honey, where we have the opportunity to taste different varieties and complete our shopping. After our enjoyable time in Mytilini, we begin our return journey to Vathi. At the end of the day, we bid farewell to Samos, famous for its unique history, philosophers, blue sea, and green forests. Upon arriving back in Kuşadası, we complete customs exit procedures and say goodbye with the hope of meeting again on another FMA TRAVEL tour.

Afterwards, we depart for Karlovasi, a town famous for the island’s wine and leather production. During our journey along the northern coastline of the island, we first enjoy a pleasant walk surrounded by nature and accompanied by the songs of nightingales. Along the way, we spend relaxing moments under the shade of monumental plane trees nourished by the waters of the nearby Kakorema Stream before continuing our tour to Karlovasi, which is also considered one of the island’s commercial and educational centers. During the drive, we also see settlements such as Agios Konstantinos and Avlakia. Upon arriving in Karlovasi, we first take a coffee break along the seaside and relax. Afterwards, we head to Potami Beach to admire the breathtaking view of one of Samos’ most beautiful beaches from the terrace of the Church of Agia Nikolaos. After taking memorable photographs, we continue our journey to Kokkari. In Kokkari, known for its tavernas and charming architecture reminiscent of Mykonos, we explore the picturesque streets and visit a lovely shop selling the famous Pythagoras cups.
